Welcome to the Falkirk Local History Society Website. The Society was established in 1981 to provide a forum for those interested in the history of the east Stirlingshire area, that is the present Falkirk Council area. We now have nearly 200 members.
On this site you will find details of the Society's programme, how to join and how to make contact. There is also an extensive bank of reliable historical information about every corner of Falkirk district as well as on the main themes of the local past like the Romans, the Canals, the Iron Industry, the Trysts, the two Falkirk battles and many more. There is a 'frequently asked questions about Falkirk' section, an archive of old photographs, a number of possible historic walks and trails in the area and a bibliography for those interested in further study. Finally there are full details of the contents of Calatria, the Society's Journal which has been published about twice each year since 1992. The next issue, number 25, will appear in November 2008.
Please feel free to use any of this material. If you include it in any publication, including a web site, we would be grateful if the Society and the author (if given) is acknowledged.  Our main concern is to ensure that the information in circulation about Falkirk district's past is reliable and reaches the greatest number of people possible.

THE SITE WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY A GENEROUS GRANT FROM AWARDS FOR ALL .
